What I Do:
I provide a safe, confidential, friendly and supportive space.
I help and encourage you to explore and express thoughts, feelings, fears, worries, hopes and dreams without criticism or judgement.
I use my training and skills to effect psychological change, where it helps, to develop a new perspective, open up possibilities and move toward your desired goals.
This can be summarised in four stages:
Stage 1: A safe space and a listening ear to tell your story and express what you are feeling at the moment. Any counsellor should be able to provide this, (sometimes known as the ‘tea and sympathy model’) but many hypnotherapists won't. It releases immediate pressure without actually tackling the issue(s).
Stage 2: Clarifying where you are now and deciding what would be desirable as an improvement;
(Based in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy- consciously looking at and acknowledging facts and opinions about you and your situation, and comparing your situation with other options).
Stage 3: Working with your conscious and unconscious mind to undo hurtful beliefs, values and behaviour (using a Transactional Analysis model) and install better models using Hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. (Most counsellors can’t/don’t do this).
Stage 4: Deciding on, and taking the first steps into a better future, and agreeing what you will do to sustain the changes and recognise your ongoing success.
Number of Sessions:
The good news is that a problem that has been holding you back for 10 years (for example) will not take ten years to resolve! However, be cautious of therapists claiming to solve all your problems in a single session, or the opposite (Freudian) way of endless analyses, after which you may really understand your problem...but still have your problem!
Th actual number of sessions will depend on the following:
The nature of your issue.
A simple phobia can often be resolved with 3-5 sessions. A more in-depth problem such as ongoing work or family issues may take 5-10 sessions over a longer period. This can be discussed and agreed in your free initial consultation, and adjusted as necessary as we go along.
How easily we find the best models of therapy to help you.
This may depend on your history, personal mode of perception and commitment to the process.
How the changes you are making affect the other aspects of your life.
No one is an island, and so the changes you make may need to be adjusted to fit better into your overall lifestyle.
