Can anyone be hypnotised?
|
Most people of normal intelligence can be hypnotised when it is to their benefit. It is almost impossible to hypnotise someone against their will.

Will I remember what is said?
Unless the specific aim is to help you to forget something, you will remember everything that your subconscious mind needs you to remember.

What is it like?
The kind of therapeutic hypnosis I use is like being in a daydream- you are aware of your surroundings and of what is happening but find it easier to focus internally and access helpful mental resources than be distracted by anything outside. You are in control at all times.
Is it like Stage Hypnosis? Will you make me do stupid things?
Stage Hypnosis is shaped around entertainment. In therapy it is all about finding a way to help you move in the direction you want to go. The powerful process of Transformational Trance is the same in both cases, but there will be no quacking like a duck or singing like Elvis - unless you especially want to!
What if I can't be hypnotised?
This is one of the strengths of Integrated Psychotherapy - if one mode isn't so effective (for whatever reason) we can change tack and approach the problem from a different direction. So if Hypnosis seems to be a struggle we can move to CBT, NLP, Inner Child or Transactional Analysis as suits you best.
